Lock It or Lose It!

Lock It or Lose It

"Lock It or Lose It" - Numerous Stolen Cars and Thefts from Unlocked Vehicles in the Area

The Police Department is asking for the Community’s assistance in curbing multiple stolen vehicles and numerous thefts from vehicles occurring in Palos Heights and the whole Chicagoland area. The City has experienced several stolen cars, all of which have had keys available to the offenders either in the unlocked vehicle or in another unlocked vehicle parked outside.

Thefts are also occurring to unlocked vehicles as multiple different crews, often with multiple offenders, will enter the area for a short time, pull on car doors, and take whatever they can find in unlocked cars before moving on to another area. Items taken in the area range from spare change to wallets, electronics, and firearms. If found, offenders will use keys/fobs to start the engine and take the car, often times to use the car to commit further crimes.

Most, if not all, of these crimes can be prevented simply by locking doors, removing any items of value from your car, and NEVER leaving your keys inside your car. Getting in the habit of locking doors to your homes, garages, and vehicles is an easy step residents can take to avoid being a victim of theft. #LockItOrLoseIt
